Three Important Things

The values of honor, courage, and commitment that are in the Navy; these values are also important in our daily Christian life. We have to honor God first, and through that example we need to honor those around us with conversation that is pleasing to God. There are so many times that we would rather edify ourselves than others, and in so doing when we dishonor God and man. Courage is a quality of spirit that enables you to face danger or pain without showing fear.( wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn )
Courage is something that we lack, especially in this day and age. If we don't have courage; we are not able to stand against those things like drugs and alcohol that seek to destroy us. I think that too many people seek temporary pleasure in drugs and alcohol. We have things that we want to accomplish, but we fall short because we want satisfaction and we want it now. Commitment is something that we make to ensure that we do what we have committed to do. When we accepted Christ as our Savior; we made a commitment to Him and all that He has called us to do.

Why Are We So Confused?

For some reason people confuse themselves by the simple things, and therefore think that they are lost. Life may seem to be a maze sometimes, but ultimately it is a maze created by us and not God. God is not the author of confusion, and He does not do anything that would cause confusion. It is when we start looking elsewhere for answer instead of the Word of God; that we create chaos in otherwise peaceful world. The true peace is found in Christ. It is not found in being in a zen state. All emptying your mind will do is just leave you feeling empty.

Another thing that causes confusion is anger. Anger can build up to dangerous levels, and it can so enrage us that it clouds our judgment. I know from experience that when I get angry that I can't think straight and I say things that can be hurtful.

"He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated."(Proverbs 14:17) We act as fools when we are angry.

"A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."(Proverbs 15:1) When you are provoked, do not retaliate with hurtful words. I want you to step away from the situation, and think about how to deal with the situation in a manner that will ease the tension between the two parties involved.

"A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife."(Proverbs 15:18) I think that this verse echoes the same meaning as verse one of the same chapter.

"A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both. Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?"(Proverbs 27:3,4) Anger is very outrageous, and the more it is fueled, the more hurt that it causes.

Jesus' Legacy

I went and saw Tron: Legacy tonight, and it is amazing the truths that are made evident in a secular movie. The creator of this digital world wanted to make a perfect world, and bring that to the real world. It took seeing his son to see that he had all he needed and did not need a perfect world to live in. Jesus wanted to create a perfect world, but we made the choice to bring sin into His perfect world.

He has a living legacy. He lived and died for us, and He did so because He saw the state that we were in apart from Him. Many consider a legacy as something that is left behind, but I want to put forth the importance of a living legacy. Live for Christ and let people know that Christ came to seek and save that which was lost.

You left behind a legacy,
What will I do for you?
Will I stand in complacency?
Will I show others what is true?

Living a life for You I will,
Sharing the truth, it is my goal.
Salvation has come, in this I thrill,
To be safe in the Shepherd's foal.

I care about the souls of others,
By sin, these were my brothers.
I have been born again,
I want to bring this to the souls of men.

This is a life that was given to me by God, and I will live for the honor and glory of Him, because He has saved me from sin and an eternal separation from God.

Inception by Deception

I just watched the movie Inception, and it put forth an interesting concept of sneaking into someone's mind while they are asleep and then planting a thought and therefore affecting that person's thoughts by doing so. I think that many people have been put to sleep by Satan, and then he plants the thought that there is no God and there is no need for one. Satan has many ways to destroy people and their lives, but the one thing that he uses the most is deception. He used it in the Garden of Eden, and that is how our lives became full of sin. We chose to believe the lies of Satan, and therefore were condemned by the choice we made. We want to uncover the deception of Satan to the lost, so that they are not sent into eternal punishment.

Death to Self

Can you give up all the things that please you? Or are you too stubborn to let it all go? It is difficult because we are constantly bombarded by it on a daily basis. So many before us have loosed the hold the flesh had on them, and therefore gained eternal life in doing so.

Dead to self, this flesh will be slain,
If I lose my life then I shall gain,
Eternal life in Him alone,
As I cast everything before His throne.

We are but a vessel to be filled,
And when we are attacked He is our shield.
He overtook the flesh and made the call,
He took on Himself the sins of us all.

Will you let Him in to dwell?
Or will deny Him and go to Hell?
The question is simple and bold,
The answer is in the truth He holds.

Die to self, and shed the flesh,
Gain new life in Him afresh.
And without Him we suffer eternal pain,
For in Him we have our life to gain.

Let Christ take control of you and make all things new. The fight against the flesh is ongoing and it will be until Christ comes again.

His Best

I had an job interview today, and I gave it my all. The Lord will honor those that give it their all. It is a learning experience, because there are times that we do less than our best and we see the outcome before we even start. So give your all and the Lord will do the rest.

I have given my best, and that is all I can do,
And look to the Lord to see me through.
My best is all I have, and that is what I will do,
For nothing less is what we do for You.

Your best is what you gave for us,
And all that You ask is that we trust.
Your best came to us long ago,
And this through Your teachings we know.

We strive so hard and it does not seem enough,
But You knew that the road ahead would be tough.
Going on before us, You knew what was ahead,
You knew the burden that we would have to shed.

Seeking His best, you find that your needs are met,
Knowing that His best we have not seen yet.
Waiting for Him in every moment of every day,
Knowing that He will keep us in the right way.

Sought and Surrendered

I have been seeking God through all of this, and I know that He is faithful to do what He says He will do. I cannot rush the hand of God, but I can follow in His footsteps. He has given me everything that I need to take on the challenges of life. My wife has reminded that God is in control, even when things are uncertain. Through all of this will come clarity. It may be foggy right now, but it will be removed when God sees fit to do so.

I have sought Your guidance day and night,
And through uncertainty follow Your guiding light.
Where I am going I know not,
But to the place that You have sought.

I have surrendered everything I own,
And I have laid it before Your throne.
If not all to You I give,
Then I cannot for You, daily live.

Now I have sought and surrendered,
So through distractions I might not be hindered.
You know the destination and where I must go,
That through all this, Your presence might show.

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things be added unto you."(Matthew 6:33) In the verses before this verse, Jesus talks about the needs that we perceive that we have, and if we seek God first and through faith those needs will be met.

Looking Back

Everyone looks back at what happened in the past year, and ponders many different things. Did I use the time that I was given? I know that people wish that they had more time, but unfortunately we have what we have; no more, no less. "Redeeming the time, because the days are evil."(Ephesians 5:16) What could I have done differently? Life is based on many different choices, and if we make the wrong choices then we might look back in regret. How could I have served others? I think that we get caught up in our own problems, and we don't take the time to be a blessing. I can recount many times throughout the year that others have been a blessing to me, and I don't think that life would be worth living without the kindness of others. Do others have to do what they do for us? No, but Jesus did what He had to do in order to save us. "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."(Luke 19:10) We all have questions about what happened in 2010, but do we have all the answers? We may not have all the answers, but I know the One that does, and He has given His Word.

Last year is gone,
And here we are again,
What will happen,
When we come to the end?

We must choose by the Word,
And this we do through the Lord.

The year is new,
And what will you do?

Will you make it count?
Or will you be overwhelmed by the mount?
The tools are in our hands,
Will it take us to foreign lands?

Come into the year with hearts open wide,
Cast away all your cares and pride,
Take the hand of God and hold on tight,
He has given us strength and might,
Be covered by the blood and cleansed within,
So that Christ might be seen of men.

I want to look back and rejoice in all the ways that God has blessed me, but I want to share that same joy with others, so that when they look back on a year they can rejoice also. "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."(Hebrews 12:2)
